Polyethylene is a thermoplastic resin made by polymerization of ethylene. In industry, it also includes ethylene and a small amount of α-olefin copolymers. Polyethylene odorless, non-toxic, feel like wax, with excellent low-temperature resistance (minimum use temperature up to -100~-70°c), chemical stability, resistance to most acid-base erosion (not resistant to oxidation of acid). At ambient temperature insoluble in general solvents, water absorption is small, electrical insulation is good.
Polyethylene is a crystalline thermoplastic resin. Their chemical structure, molecular weight, polymerization degree and other properties are largely dependent on the use of polymerization methods. The method of polymerization determines the type and branching degree of branched chains. The degree of crystallinity depends on the regularity of the molecular chain and the thermal history it undergoes.
Polyethylene is very sensitive to environmental stress (chemical and mechanical), and the heat-resistant aging is worse than the chemical structure and processing strips of polymers. Polyethylene can be processed in general thermoplastic molding methods.
